We found the perfect island gin joint...

Islands To Highlands Bracelets

This is the Ideal Island Bar/Restaurant To Chill...

One of the things we like to do in The Bar & Bait Shop is to have our Islands To Highlands Crew and Members share their wild adventures or showcase cool places they have been to so the rest of us can put it on our bucket lists. Plus, it's a nice way to recognize some of the people and places that deserve our gratitude for making our experiences a little more special.

On a recent trip to Crete, we found the perfect place for a cocktails, good grub and a view second-to-one. Just outside of the coastal town of Agia Pelagia and up the hill behind the secluded Psaromoura Beach is a spectacular joint called Yamas Restaurant-Café-Bar. Sometimes when you walk into a place, you just know you need to be there. It's hard to focus when you first enter it from the street, especially in the middle of the afternoon when it's scorching hot outside. It's due to inside/outside set-up, your senses going into overload because of the surprise setting/décor and that amazing view hitting you in the face. And that oh-so-amazing view is of the cliffs surrounding Agia Pelagia and the Aegean See. Seriously, we didn't want to leave because it just got better and better. Anytime of the day works here, especially at sunset...oohlala!

What They Offer

Besides the view and picturesque setting, the Yamas Staff was very friendly, always attentive and quite accommodating when it came to their Mediterranean-style menu. Ya better arrive hungry because the portions are HUGE. The eye poppin' meat and beautifully presented seafood dishes were always seasoned and cooked perfectly. Their Mushroom Fettuccini Carbonara is da bomba---one of the best ever with tons of stick-to-the-ribs flavor! We also wanted to give a shout-out to the bartenders who made some of the best traditional Caribbean Pina Coladas and Strawberry Daiquiris EVER tasted...and in Crete of all places! And the local Mythos Beer was nice and coooooold---woohoo! Always a plus for fellow travelers eh? The bar also offers an enjoyable Hookah experience with many different, exotic flavored tobaccos to choose from. It's a proper Shisha Bar and again...what a view to light up to! We do have to mention the different and unusual sitting tables. They have these incredible huge, round cushioned concrete tables which are perfect to stretch out on after dinner when having more drinks and a Hookah. You can also sit at one of their boat tables to eat your din din. Seriously, they are actual little fishing boats which are a kitchy delight.

You can literally just sit there all day if ya had to....which we tried to do so on many occasions. There were a ton of great little bars and restaurants throughout the area, but we kept coming back here because it truly had the local flava and vibes we all wanted. Great views, an amazing vibe, the perfect modern & local décor, clean, fantastic food, amazing cocktails and a fun & friendly staff...what's more to like eh?

Mahalo and aloha Yamas...we hope to see you down the road again.

How To Find it

It's about a 25 minute walk heading northwest from downtown Agia Pelagia. You'll have to wind your way through some neighborhood side streets to find it. When you see the car park for Psaromoura Beach, keep walking up the hill street towards the resorts. Right before you start getting into the resorts, it will be there on your right---you can't miss it.
