An old sailor would hear the words "'Round The Horn" and would look as if he was going to pay a visit to Davey Jones' Locker. The term refers to the dangerous sea journey around the Cape Horn of South America. It was the long way to navigate around the continent before the creation of the Panama Canal. It was sometimes also referred to as 'rounding the Cape of South Africa.' Going around the horn was very treacherous due to the very rough seas and weather. Many ships were lost trying to make the journey...especially in the days of the tall wooden ships. This piece is all about that mighty undertaking. The Black Lava Rocks looks like the rocky shoals just off the cape, the Carved Yak Bone Beads look like Scrimshaw and the brown and cream-colored Smooth Yak Bone signifies the before and after journey around the cape as well as having a look and feel of a ship's hull. A Hand-Forged Anchor Pendant resembles an anchor (which most sailors welcomed laying down after such a harrowing adventure). An old WW2 Era U.S. Navy Button represents the naval lineage and a Bone Mala Skull is there to represent the old salty dogs who made the journey. This bracelet looks like something made by an old seaman who was lucky enough to have 'rounded the horn.' Stormy weather boys-heave way!
