Back in the mid 1990's on a drive through Scotland, a dear friend took an amazing Black & White Photo (with film) of the World-Famous Steam Engine Train called The Jacobite. The photo hung in my house for years as a cherished piece (and still does). Scotland was on the bucket list for years and finally got there 20 years later on a driving trip of my own. Just west of Fort William going towards Mallaig Harbour, you pass the famous Glenfinnan Monument on one side and the Glenfinnan Viaduct on the other. Glenfinnan is a hamlet that rests upon the site where Bonnie Prince Charlie landed to continue his quest for the Scottish throne and it is also a memorial to the Scots who fought on the Jacobite side. On the other side of the road against the green hills runs the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct built in 1897. Most now know it as the famous viaduct in the Harry Potter movies. Both are iconic and the backdrop of the misty highlands was too iconic. While there, an old steam engine train went across the viaduct which put the icing on the cake for that day. It was only after getting back from over the pond and looking at some of my photos (now digital) that I realized that I actually witnessed The Jacobite. Talk about Wow and coming full circle! Aiyiyi. That's the story that brought about this bracelet. A few years ago I found a number of 1950's era Resin Beads that had a unique look to them. They are engraved and the lines look tribal and have a motion-like appearance to them. I added some Stainless Stell Nuts to the piece to represent steam engine parts and some Hand-Carved Jerusalem Wood for an old worldly feel. The Kiwi Jasper looks exactly like the green color of those misty highlands on that day. Also added an Antique Scottish Railways Uniform Button (Pre 1948) to the bracelet for a true authentic tie-in. A Bone Mala Skull is included as a shout-out to the Bonnie Prince himself. This bracelet is as Scottish as you can get for all the reasons mentioned above. If you ever want to see the Scottish Highlands in all their glory, get to Glenfinnan and hopefully you'll get to see The Mighty Jacobite chugging along. Slàinte mhath!
