Kealakekua means "the pathway of the god" and the bay is truly amazing with its sheer sea cliffs and crystal clear water. The historical significance of Kealakekua is over a thousand years old and includes the site where the famed explorer Captain James Cook made the first recorded European contact with Hawaii. He later met his death there in a crazy twist of fate. Make sure to check out the Needle Monument there in Cook's Cove. Pali Kapu O Keōua (forbidden cliffs of Keōua) are the sea cliffs behind the bay and hold huge mojo for the Hawaiian people. The bay can only be accessed by hiking or boating in...but ohhhhh so worth it. I tell ya, it is one of the best places to snorkel on the planet! You can swim through walls of fish in the shallows and then venture out further and see how the sea wall just drops off into oblivion---it can be unsettling thinking about some BIG Tiger coming up from the depths. When I saw these two pieces of Rough-Cut Fluorite, they instantly reminded me of that clear aqua water of this bay. The Black Lava Rock, Puka Shell, Coconut Wood and Keyhole Limpet Shell resemble things you could find washed up on shore. Don't worry, the Black Lava Rock is not from Hawaii so not to worry Cuz. The Carved Bone Bead adds a Tiki flare to the piece and the Bone Mala Skull is there to remind you of the historical figures that touched that oh-so-beautiful bay. This piece just looks too cool on. Check out the history in-depth and find a way to get there because it will get under your salty skin. I prefer getting there by sea because the impact of the cliffs is worth it. Plus dropping anchor and taking a plunge into the water seals the deal. And like always, leave the place as you found it because there are ancient spirits that are watching over you. Aloha!
