You know all about the Mangroves in this part of the world if you have cruised around Key West in a boat or kayak. Mangroves Trees are an important part of the eco-system and marine life because their root systems help to prevent erosion by stabilizing the shoreline. They offer protection for small sea creatures and nesting birds and are home to Manatees, Lemon Sharks and Mudskippers. Sometimes you even can get a glimpse of the invasive Iguana. There are 3 kinds of Mangrove Trees including the Red, White and Black in Key West and please don’t have me explain their differences. These trees truly give the keys their flavor. I wanted this bracelet to have the look & feel of the ocean meeting the Mangroves. The Wood Beads with their swirly designs along with the Dyed & Natural Coconut Wood really do have a look of the Mangroves. Lime green is a Key West color so I had to naturally tie it into the design. The Puka Shell and Scallop Shell add to its coastal vibe and the Bone Mala Skull is there to remind you of how happy you are to witness such natural beauty. Those tiny, little Mangrove islands that pop out of the ocean are quite something to behold…they almost look like you dropped a potted plant into the ocean. They are almost alien. If you can, try and get out on a night adventure to explore those magnificent coastal trees and wildlife…and remember...leave them as you find them. Speaking of wildlife, let me know if you find that lost saltshaker...
