Lalibela is an ancient town in the northern highlands of Ethiopia.  It's known for its distinctive rock-cut, medieval monolithic churches dating from the 12th & 13th centuries and they have been a source of pilgrimage for many people. It's a place of awe and wonder and many have said the churches have been 'built by angels.' Whatever your religious leanings are, the 11 churches are considered wonders of our world. Plus, witnessing a sunset against these red rock structures is something to behold. This piece was made to represent everything about Lalibela. The Copper, Brass, Nickel Silver pieces are from an Antique Egyptian Snake Necklace. The Dark Red Poppy Jasper and Black Lava Rock obviously signify the carved rock/lava and the Coconut Wood and Wood throw in the ancient world flava. This place connects you to humanity even though the region has been in strife lately. The two Bone Mala Skulls represent you and the ones who have gone there before you. Add it to that deep bucket list because it will be worth the journey one day.
