On of those country drives through France, you sometimes come upon one of those places that you just need to stop at...ya know...back up the car so you can take a longer gander. The Le Chateau de Lourmarin is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and is one of those places! It was originally built as a fort in the 12th century and managed to survive the French Revolution until it fell into decay. It found a new owner and was eventually put into a trust to support young artists which it still does to this day. Now you can tour the joint and oh what a feast for the eyes! It's built on a rocky plateau overlooking the old village of Lourmarin with its winding streets around its Castellas. Its pale, yellow-stoned architecture contrasts the garden grounds filled with aromatic lavender. It’s a place where you need to have a baguette and a bottle of chilled wine to truly enjoy. Are ya getting the picture? The Red Jasper and Hand-Carved & Smooth Water Buffalo Bone resembles the textures and colors of the chateau and village. The Large Pottery Bead looks like some of the wall patterns you find there and an Antique 1919 French 10 Francs Coin gives it authenticity (hard to believe that coin is over 100 years old!). The Bone Mala Skull is a shout-out to Robert Laurent-Vibert who was an extraordinary war hero, businessman, politician and philanthropist and whose generosity is still bearing fruit to this day. Now that's some BIG aloha!
