One of the all-time greatest Blues standards is Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Mel London. Waters recorded it in 1955 in Chicago with Junior Wells on harmonica, Jimmy Rogers on guitar, Fred Below on drums and an unidentified female chorus. The song is about boasting, politics of the day and is just a good get-up-and-go type of song. It's the best...no ifs, ands or butts. On a jaunt around town, this song cycled through the playlist. My feet were a' tappin' and I was singing along and then one of the song lines said, "I think I go down to old Kansas too, I'm gonna bring back to second cousin, that's Little Johnny Cocheroo." I started thinking “Who the heck is Little Johnny Cocheroo and what’s he about?” I had to even look up the dang song lyrics just to see how the name was spelled. I have no idea who he is or why he was needed by Muddy. All we know is that he's from Kansas City...the land of THE best barbeque. Maybe Muddy was hungry or he just needed backup? Who knows? So I decided to dedicate this bracelet to Little Johnny Cocheroo and to all those souls who listen to and sometimes need...The Blues. Duh Da Duh Duh. This bracelet is made with Hand-Painted African Glass Beads that look like lines on a sheet of music. And they're blue! The design on the Hand-Dyed Water Buffalo Bone Beads look like they could be musical symbols. The Steel Nuts and Aluminum Beads add a grittiness to the piece and the Big Mala Skull is a shout-out to the little man from KC. I had fun designing and making this piece with Mannish Boy running in the background. So if you dig this song and the blues, you'll get this piece.
