Oaxaca (pronounced "wah-hah-kah" in English) is a state in southwest Mexico and is best known for its indigenous people and cultures. Oaxaca has its own identity because it is mostly surrounded by mountains with the Pacific Ocean on its left. The people along with the colors and textures of this region are what give this place its character and special flavor. There is also a lot of evidence of Spanish influence, especially in the architecture. Oaxaca (bet you’re still having a hard time reading and pronouncing it) is also known for some of the richest cuisine and local hooch ever to be introduced to the world….and thank your lucky stars! This includes the "seven" amazing moles, yummy tamales wrapped in banana leaves and for the mighty Mezacal (made from the Agave Plant). Everything here seems to have just that little bit of that smokey/pepper/chocolate spice that just elevates everything. This place really does have an old-world feel to it and the long sunsets do rival Hawaii. This bracelet is influenced by all the old-world influence and by its local colors and textures. The 2 Large Bauxite Beads look like an old, painted and weathered courtyard wall. The Burma Jade resembles the green color of the Agave Plant and the Water Buffalo Bone gives this bracelet a nice aged appearance. The Large Antique Afghan Bead (very rare), Nickel Silver and Zinc Alloy add the Spanish antiquity. The Vintage Mexican Pesos Concho Button gives it the tie-in to Mexico and the Bone Mala Skull represents the independence and spiciness of the people. This is a gorgeous piece and looks and feels like a handed-down, antique piece with a gritty appearance to it. There is an old saying in Oaxaca, "Para todo mal, mezcal, para todo bien, también" (For everything bad, mezcal; for everything good, the same). Think what you'll look like sipping on this nectar while sportin' this beautiful bracelet. Oh yeah...
