Nothing conjures up the romantic time of travel and flight like the old Pan Am Flying Clipper Ships of the 1930's and 1940's. They helped the rest of the world discover the Orient to the Caribbean in fashionable style. The first-rate service was new at the time and these Clippers took people to faraway places only imagined in books. This piece is inspired by those flying boats, in particular the Philippine Clipper which flew from 1935 to 1943. The design of these vessels brought together old staple and new materials which gave it its distinct style and character. The Large Carved Wood & Palm Wood Bead reminds me of its design lines and the materials used to build it. The Coconut Wood, Yak Bone and Crocodile Wood remind you of the flava of plane's namesake---the Philippine Islands. The Blue/Brown Creme Turquoise resemble those clear, aqua blue waters that surround those amazing islands…especially from the air. The Vintage Delta Airlines Button caps it off and adds to the design aesthetic of this piece. The 2 Bone Mala Skulls represent you taking that journey to meet up with someone new. It's a shame those aircraft no longer exist but their romanticism still endures...like your newfound coolio bracelet!
