Raglan is a small beachside town in northwest New Zealand just down from Auckland. It's the perfect place where the highlands tumble down into the sea. The area was first settled by the Māori people and they named it Whaingaroa  which means "the long pursuit.” Today, it’s mainly an agricultural and timber community known for its music and art scene, colorful downtown shops and for some descent surf breaks in the surrounding areas. If ya like to backpack, bike or surf, the surrounding hills and beaches are ideal without too much effort. One of the best places to walk or beachcomb on any beach is Ngarunui Beach---what an amazing place! This stretch of sand and landscape reminds you of similar stretches along the northern Californian and Oregon coasts. I wanted this piece to have a ruggedness with an organic feel to it. It also needed to speak to the land and tie in its industry and heritage. The Genuine Hand-Carved Māori Fishhook is the centerpiece of this bracelet for sure. Ironically, I picked up this fishhook at a small curio shop on the coast of Oregon (knew its history). The Yak Horn looks and feels like wood and the Hand-Carved Water Buffalo Bone Beads have a tribal look to them. This bracelet has a very unusual, therapeutic feel to it---both while wearing it and holding it in your hand. Wear the Bone Fishhook pointed down on the top of the hand (pictured).
