We all know the black & white classic of classic movies called Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart (Rick), Ingrid Bergman (Ilsa), Paul Henreid (Laszlo) and Claude Rains (Louis). It's the romance, the adventure, the mystery and about the good guys sticking it to the bad guys. Perfect entertainment eh? As most fans would know, this movie is best to watch late at night with all the lights turned off and a big bucket of buttered popcorn. This piece was inspired by one of those late nights sitting on the couch watching this flick. This piece was purposefully made as a monochromatic/black & white piece to represent how it was filmed back in the day. The Buffalo Bone, Coconut Wood and African Ashanti Glass give it that feel and also showcase the high walls, the décor and shadows inside Rick's Cafe Américain. Included is a large Antique Tin Bead that really adds some local North African flavor to the bracelet. However, hidden inside the “hollow” tin bead are 2 Bone Mala Skulls that represent Isla & Laszlo hiding from the bad guys so they can get out of the country. The Hand Carved Buffalo Bone Bead on the Split-Tail has a look of a Moroccan lantern and the 2 Bone Mala Skulls below it represents our 2 heroes Rick and Louis. Also included in this piece, which definitely adds some flavor and some authenticity, is an Antique 1921 French Protectorate Yusuf Moroccan Coin. Talk about a really cool, decorative coin! So, if you are fan of the movie and story, this piece is right up your alley. Follow that dark, cobble-stoned alley up a way and you might just run into Rick and Louis enjoying a cig and cocktail out in front of one of the greatest gin joints in history...Rick' Café Américain.
