The Road to Mandalay is based on a Rudyard Kipling Poem about a working-class colonial soldier who longs to return to Mandalay, a city in Myanmar, to reunite with his Burmese lover. There are movies, a casino in Las Vegas and songs based on it (the best is by Frank Sinatra in my opinion). The actual city of Mandalay on the Irrawaddy River is very picturesque and famous for being the old royal capital of Myanmar. Plus, it has tons of spectacular Buddhist and religious temples. Basically, Mandalay is a very romanticized place both physically and in the heart---it kinda has your head all over the place. This piece has a look and feel of the religious temples and native flavor of Mandalay. The Hand-Carved Agate and Yak Bone do give it a spiritual substance. The Smooth Yak Bone peppered throughout add to its ancient charm and the Large Bone Mala Skull is there as a true prayer/mala bead. There are many roads to pursue, but there is only one road to Mandalay.
