In the Portuguese town of Serpa, there is a castle with a understated clock tower that has stood out in memory for a while. Archaeologists state that the area of Sherpa pre-dates the Romans and the castle was later built in the 13th century due to its defensive stronghold. The castle sits in the middle of this gorgeous town that has all the charming characteristics you are looking for in a getaway place such as this. It's why the people in Lisbon drive here through the rolling wheatfields so they can get away from their own hustle and bustle. It’s also a good place to sample the spicy cheeses and local lamb stew which is da bomba. It goes down even better with an ice-cold Super Bok. When wandering around the small, cobbled streets inside the town walls, you can visit the clock tower known as the “Torre do Relógio.” This turret of the fort was transformed into a clock in 1440 as is the third oldest watchmaking tower in Portugal. There's something really cool about this tower. It’s not very ornate and won’t stand out as the most amazing piece of architect you'll ever see, but the simplicity of it with its textured, stone walls leading up to a basic white-faced clock and bell make it memorable. It's just one of those little things that stands out in Serpa and was the inspiration for this bracelet. I recently found some old watch dials in an antique shop and one had a white face which brought back that distant memory of the clock tower. The Antique Watch Face is made by Zaria in the USSR back in the day. The Large Engraved Brass/Pot Metal Bead and Small Brass bead kinda resemble the bell and gears of the clock and the Tan-Colored Yak Bone Beads resemble the color of the stoned walls. The Hand-Carved Water Buffalo Beads and Coconut Wood also add a nice local flavor to the piece. The Bone Mala Skull is there to remind you to concentrate on those little things in life….they will wander back into your memory at some point. Clock is ticking…
