This piece is dedicated to one of the greatest explorers and guides to have ever lived...Sidi Bombay (1820-1885). Sidi Mubarak Bombay was a waYao explorer and guide from the Tanzania/Mozambique area and he participated in numerous 19th century British expeditions into East Africa. He helped guide famous explorers such John Hanning Speake, Sir Richard Burton and Henry Morton Stanley just to name a few. He helped discover the source of the Nile River and in 1873, Sidi walked across the continent of Africa from the East coast to the West Coast. His role was recognized by the National Geographic Society, but unjustly he was never invited to England. You really gotta check out more info on him because he really was one of the unsung heroes of exploration. I tried to make a piece I felt would look like something he would have worn on one of his journeys.  I included many Hand-Carved and Rustic Smooth Yak Bone Beads which give it a definite African tribal flavor. The Square Hand-Carved Yak Bone Beads do look like something a man of his statue would have worn. The Red River Jasper reminds me of the African red clay paint color which does give it a pop on the wrist. The Large Bone Mala Skull obviously represents the great Sidi Bombay. Hopefully this Bracelet will remind you to get out, see the world and to push the limits just like the namesake you are wearing. I bet stories around the campfire with him were more than interesting eh?
