Smokey Joe's Cafe is one of those tunes that just gives off that cool vibe when you hear it---you just gotta start to sway the head and hips to go along with its attitude. This song reminds of an idyllic place where you could go to meet up with friends and foes for a rockin' good time. Man, I'm starting to sound like Daddy-O so I'll stop now. This song was written by the team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller in 1955 and these guys eventually became The Coasters. The rest as you know is rock & roll history. Their song was inspired by a real cafe called "Smokey Joe's" which was next to an oil well at the corner of Beverly Boulevard and La Cienega in Los Angeles. Only a few souls alive can tell you about that place now. This too-cool-for-school song kinda inspired the making of this bracelet. It also got me thinking about all those greasy spoon cafes and diners that you hit up when you're on the road. Like many of us, when you are on a road trip, part of the journey is trying to find that ideal roadside café/diner for lunch that just does it right. There's a difference between a greasy spoon and a greasy spoon eh? If you're lucky enough, you can find one that puts out that perfect burger on a sesame bun with all the fixin's, crinkle-cut fries, a cold Coke/Pepsi loaded with crushed ice and real chocolate shake/malt on the side. Like we envision Smokey Joe's to be, the atmosphere inside our perfect place needs to be light and fun, the decor is a crash-up between old and new, there's some good 'ol tunes playing in the background and the staff is as friendly as can be...they welcome you like family. It's the goal when we're on a road trip am I not right? This bracelet was made with a 1950's flare based on when this song came out. I added some Stainless-Steel Nuts that somewhat resemble the appliances/hardware of the joint and some Water Buffalo Bone that give it a vintage look. The Antique Turquoise 1950's era Japanese Cherry Glass Beads definitely give it its authentic 1950’s history and color pop from that era. The Big Hand-Carved Yak Bone Bead has an old, organic look and feel to it and the gnarly Bone Mala Skull is our idea of Smokey Joe himself. Well, grab this bracelet, jump in the car, put on this tune and hit the dang road in search of that perfect joint. Give us a shout if you find one and we'll post it to The Bar & Bait Shop Blog! Happy hunting...
