Spinalonga is an island located in the Gulf of Elounda in north-eastern Crete. It's near the town of Plaka and the "official" Greek name of the island today is Kalydon. It was a fortified joint back in the day because it protected the entranceway of the port of Ancient Olous. And yes, it has tons of history from the Ottoman rule to being a Leper Colony at one time...but what is cool is that it is just cool. It's a tiny, picturesque island surrounded by clear, aqua blue waters and it is topped off with tons of ancient ruins on it. Ya can't beat that for a quick day adventure with a camera and a full bota bag eh? Make sure you sport a big straw hat because it can be scorching hot in the warmer months while winding your way though the alley ways. This bracelet looks as if part of it was found as on some excavation dig there. It has an Ancient Polished Ammonite Fossil which are actually found here and in the surrounding areas. This piece is therefore VERY connected to the sea. I also added some old Stamped Brass, Yak Horn, Water Buffalo Bone and Coconut Wood to give it that old world appeal. The Large Bone Mala Skull represents you sitting on Spinalonga's small pebbled beach enjoying your vino while pondering over its rich historic past. This bracelet is stunning on your wrist and the colors of the Polished Ammonite Fossil really stand out...there is a hint of blue running through it that looks like those surrounding aqua waters. Get this and go there!
