Vestrahorn Mountain in Iceland must be where Thor resides when he partakes with the mere mortals on earth. It literally is one of the best sights you will ever behold. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Summer or in the dead of Winter, it will take your breath away. Vestrahorn translates to ‘west horn’ and is part of the group of three mountain ranges known as “The Horny Mountains.” The mountain, which is primarily made up of Gabbro and Granophyre rock, just shoots straight up into the sky and is about 1,500 feet high. That doesn’t seem very high comparatively, but when it starts at ocean level, it is enormous! Believe it or not, the land is privately owned so have some coin in the pocket to pay to the local farmer. It’s about a 6-hour drive from Reykjavik to get to the beach cutoff where you can get the best photos of Vestrahorn from the black sand beach. When the black sand beach in front of the mountain is filled with seawater, you get fantastic photos because you get the reflection of Vestrahorn mountain in the lagoon at the foot of the mountain. After a full day of gaze amazement, there’s a little café down the road to get a nice little cup of Joe. Ok…on to the bracelet.
